#bookthoughts

I just finished this book and I'm still a little creeped out πŸ˜….

Let's just say...Falada isn't my cup of tea🫣.

This is my first T kingfisher and I understand why a lot of people love her books 🧐. She blends horror elements with family issues /drama ( and drama of other kind, I bet) in a strange package delivered by interesting POVs... Seeing this story from Cordelia's perspective is not unusual..plenty authors do that ( story from the victim)...But adding Hester gave this retelling a unique element ☺️..at least for meπŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ...

As we are here, I feel is only just to say that character work is maybe the strongest point of this novel 😁. My favorite was Hester despite not always understanding her 100%, followed by Cordelia from which we see the horror of abuseπŸ₯². I quite liked Penelope and Imogene, and for the rest...not much to sayπŸ˜…. Unfortunately, Evangeline wasn't as strong of a character as I wanted her to be..given her role 🫣. I believe Falada actually took the stage far more than her and I'm a little sad because of it.😒

The plot was pretty easy to fall into, despite some meandering ( or at least it felt like it) and lack of explanations regarding what exactly is a sorceress and why people treat this so casually in this world πŸ˜…...the solution to our problems kind of jumped into our laps without prompting 🀣..oh well, I quess the point wasn't to write a thesis on witchcraft πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ.

The 2nd best thing about this book is the atmosphere 😈..the sprinkle of horror we see every so often is πŸ‘Œ and the slow increase of it...perfection!😌
As someone who doesn't like horror, I can get down with this!πŸ‘

Falada is perfectly creepy and in the end, he gives you chills πŸ˜‚

OK..so..you now know this is a drama focused horror retelling, but fear not, we have a sweet romance πŸ₯Ή and some inner struggles from my fave characters!πŸ₯°

What can I say πŸ€”..expect some #historicalromance setting and plotπŸ˜‚, get a cozy chair to read into as it is a slow story and marvel at Cordelia and her strength despite what she endured.πŸ₯² Don't forget to laugh with Penelope and be on your guard with Hester!πŸ˜‡

Overall, I don't really know how to sell you this book πŸ˜†. Maybe I'm trying to review it too soon or something...but I feel lots of people will vibe with it. Especially if you enjoy a little mystery πŸ™ƒ, a little fear for your heroines and anxietyπŸ˜‚. This title not only gives you the impression of being dark, it's not holding your hand at all... 🫣..so bring a lantern πŸ˜….( No grimdark but completely unexpected) Lots of people suffer here; you'll be sad and feel taken by surprise, not to mention - thirsty for revenge 😈.

To conclude...try this if the synopsis sounds interesting 😁...the probability of you liking it is high!πŸ™ƒ
