This one is incredibly hard to review... The first half of the novel is PERFECT. The best vampire novel I've ever read. Gorgeous writing, totally immersive, and brutal in the ways a monster story should be. The second half is no where near as interesting. I understand what the author was trying to say about mortality, but it was pretty basic literary fiction when the first half was genre GOLD. I really didn't like the ending, I simply didn't buy that she would abandon her child like that. Their relationship didn't seem developed enough for that to make sense. A huge disappointment. I'm still giving it a high rating though, because in my mind the first half is a stand-alone novella.
