Ruled Out by Ruth Stilling

5.0

Thank you to Ruth Stilling and Wordsmith Publicity for an advance copy of Ruled Out.

I don’t know how to sum up my feelings about this book and the end of the series. It’s everything that the series deserves to finish on a high.

I can tell that Ruth has poured her heart and soul into this book and the way that Mia and Jessie’s story is presented is stunning. I would recommend people to read the trigger warnings before diving into this book as it does contain some sensitive topics, but I believe that they were handled with care and love.

Spoilers below

Jessie grew up in a completely different environment to the one he finds himself in during the story and to what Mia grew up with too and it continues to haunt him throughout the book. He has to battle this but has his found family, the Scorpions, around to help him.

This book is also a second chance romance as Jessie and Mia were in a relationship four years prior to the main bulk of the story but there are flashbacks to their relationship in Dallas. As Mia is the daughter of the GM of the team in Dallas, the relationship had to be kept a secret but they were eventually caught by her father. This is what led Jessie to getting traded but they reconnect in Seattle.

As with Ruth’s other books, the relationships with the other characters is a big part of it and the found family aspect hasn’t changed from the previous books.

I would recommend this book, series and author to literally everyone and cannot wait to read more of Ruth’s work!
