Eleanor & Park
by Rainbow Rowell
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
One of my favorite quotes from this book is this: “If you can't save your own life, is it even worth saving?”
It's 1986. Eleanor is living with her drunk and abusive stepfather, her mother who always sides with him, and her other little siblings. They are not the richest ones in the neighborhood, so life is very chaotic for her at home and in school, as girls and boys call her Big Red.
Park is the only Asian (Specifically Korean) kid in the neighborhood. He wears nothing but black and he's always listening to music. But then he meets Eleanor.
Eleanor and Park is seriously just cuteness overload. If you love cute moments, you're definitely going to love this book. I find it helpful that this book has alternating POVs. But there are just times when I just had to read the the same text twice because for me, I truly didn't get what the author was implying. And because I'm neither from 1986 or America, there were moments where I truly didn't get it at all. But all in all, it was a good book, and their romance leaves me weeping because it's seems very real to me.
