Don't Believe Everything You Think
by Joseph Nguyen
I’m giving an extra star to this book for not taking itself too seriously. The tone of the book is quite casual in a way that allows you not to throw it in the garbage can every time it tells you to simply not think. It reminded me of the memes that go like : “hey why are you depressed just stop being sad bro”, or “are you poor? just buy more money man”.
Lines I never expected to read in any book, let alone a “bestseller”:
1. ‘A guide to stop thinking’
2. ‘Before you close this chapter, I do have a small favour to ask. If you found this book helpful—-leave a review on amazon’
3. ‘Your mind has done an amazing job at what it was made to do, but now you may relieve it of its job because we no longer live in the wild where death could be right around the corner in a bush.’
Of course the author means something else by “non-thinking”, something mysterious, spiritual, and cosmic but to me it just felt comic.
Oh man! I think I’m thinking too much again, I must stop.
There were few wise words to be honest. Most of them were quotations, however.
So 2 stars.
