I’m a huge fan of Samantha Young’s On Dublin Street series. And I was super excited to read this book. The moment I read the synopsis I was like, “GIVE IT TO ME!”
The book starts off with a bang. Alexa and Caine share a really painful history only they’ve never met before. Not until the beginning of Hero. Alexa is working with a photographer at a photo shoot of Caine and she tells him who she is. And Caine immediately gets furious. He storms out and he gets her fired from her job.
When Alexa is fired from her job she decides to confront Caine. When she does, he’s still angry and then he does something she didn’t expect him to do. He offers her a job.
Caine is the boss that everyone has nightmares about. He’s the boss straight from hell. He enjoys tormenting Alexa. And Alexa handles everything like a champ. She gives it back to him and I totally loved her.
I loved Alexa from the beginning but I hated Caine. He was such an asshole. When we learn what happened long ago between Caine’s mother and Alexa’s father it is heart-breaking but at the same time I was like, “Why are you being mean to her she didn’t have anything to do with it?!” Caine does begin to change overtime. He begins acting like he cares about Alexa. His behavior toward her changes. And I slowly starting coming around to liking him.
The chemistry between Alexa and Caine is sizzling. Sparks fly between them even in the beginning when Caine dislikes Alexa. And Samantha Young can write sexy scenes very well.
The Conclusion:
Hero is a wonderful story but I did have a few issues with it. I thought that some of the twists were predictable and I didn’t like Caine for the majority of the book. I did enjoy reading this book and couldn’t put it down. It was well-written and really steamy.
RECOMMEND TO:
Readers who enjoy hate-to-love stories and stories that have angst and intense scenes.
Quotes from Hero:
“You’re the one real thing in my life right now. You should know I don’t want to let that go.”
“This isn’t just sex, Caine. This is an affair.” I held my hand up to stop his coming protest. “I’m not suggesting permanency. I’m suggesting that you admit that there’s a difference in what we’re doing here. We aren’t two people who just have sex now and then. There are feelings here whether we want to admit it or not. I’m not asking for forever, I’m asking you to stop pushing me away. I’m asking you to be real with me for however long this lasts.”
“A man like me isn’t capable of being your fucking white knight.”
I felt the anger boil up inside me. “I’m not looking for a hero!”
He flinched at the emotion cracking my words.
“I never asked for that… I just wanted you, because despite what you might think, I see you. And no, you’re no fucking white knight, but you’re what I want.”
