Moon Stalked

What a refreshingly different type of Werewolf story. Honor is part of a small family of shifters who shed their skins like Selkies in order to walk around as humanoids. Due to her negligence while younger, her family all lost their skins and are stuck in human form. But her cousin Bastian is dying because someone is using his skins, and Honor is willing to run herself into the ground finding his skin.
She uses her nose in wolf form to scour the city, and her family depends upon her while simultaneously reminding her that Honor is at fault. While scouting a real werewolf finds her and tags along with her investigation. It is not exactly Sherlock and Holmes, but he makes every attempt to get Honor comfortable with his presence.
There was enough action and suspense to keep the story moving. I especially like the comparison between these ground selkies, Woelf-kin, and real werewolves. The societies are different, the physical characteristics are different. I also liked the subplot between Honor and her distrust of the human bounty hunter, who is determined to find all her secrets, but his snooping gets in the way of catching the murderer. The murderer is also a fascinating sketch in how-to-create-a-supervillain. Totally cool.
The romance is decidedly G-rated. Although I feel the connection, I found the touch of a wrist or thumb swirl not salacious enough for me. This could be a pre-teen read.
It was a fun one-off. I don’t think I would read a series, but I liked this story.
