The Appointment by Katharina Volckmer
4.0
This book made me feel a weird mix of intoxication and liberation (though I don’t even know from what). After a stream of consciousness in which the author explores dreams, fears, absurdities, anxieties, bodies, pleasure and guilt, putting this book down was like letting out a breath and exhaling for the first time in forever. It’s one of those books that are not afraid to go “there” (wherever “there” may be), unapologetic in its trying to make amends for a cultural heritage that it can’t escape, and has that sort of humorous vein that it’s also kind of tragic.
