House of Lies and Sorrow by Emily Blackwood
3.0
Rating: 3/5
Spice Level: 1/5
Tropes: Forced Marriage, Enemies to Lovers, Touch her and you die.
This story revolves around a human girl, Jade, who has been promised to the intoxicating Prince of Shadows, Malachi. Unfortunately for Jade, this is basically a death sentence for her since all of his previous human wives have ended up dead. However, once entering Rewyth, she learns not everything is how it seems. Both her and Malachi have to work together to keep her from being next.
I think this first book was interesting. The world of Rewyth was unique in my opinion with the fae, their abilities. Really want to learn more about Malachi and his abilities specifically. I Also would like to see them dive deeper into the creatures from the forest, especially the deadlings. The first half of the book was a little slow in my opinion but I think it was to give more time to the mystery of who was trying to kill Jade. Need time for dramatic effect. Second half was a lot better. Flowed more smoothly and kept me wanting more. The relationship between Jade and Malachi had some real relationship development. I truly did feel bad for both of them. Jade was desperate to make sure her sister knew she was safe and Malachi was fighting with himself. He didn’t want to show weakness in front of his family and unfortunately for him Jade became the weakness for them.
I’m excited to see where the adventure takes us in the next book. Figure out why Jade is so important and also see their relationship grow. I’d like to see a less controlling side of Malachi in the next one and also see Jade kick some ass. I’m not one for a damsel in distress type FMC.
