i remember reading this as a kid and being so sad when i realized i’d never read it for the first time again. i felt it and the sequel were a masterpiece to behold. a decade later i reread it and it stands the test of time and aged perspective, AND i got the bonus of it having been so long that i pretty much did read it for the first time all over again. a delight.
Graphic: Death
Moderate: Death of parent
this isn’t really a spoiler but just in case: mc’s father is dead and has been for uears at the start of the book, and they describe it in the book in detail at least once however it wasn’t a graphic death and mc’s recollection of it gives it more of a magical realism feel then anything aggressive or violent. mc takes time to reflect on his father’s death during his own life threatening experiences . several people are shot or attacked by animals. not horrifically graphic but definitely description of the aftermath.
