One Good Man by Emma Scott

3.0

Most of the sports romances I read are romantic comedies, so this more serious contemporary romance was a pleasant surprise. The two main characters, Adrian and Janey, are quite layered; however, the side characters are more of the one-dimensional novella variety. I loved Adrian’s sister, though!

I would have liked more chemistry between Janey and Adrian. While they are a good fit as friends, I just wasn’t feeling them as a romantic couple. The novella is sweet and engaging. It just lacks certain elements that push it over from the “like” category into the “love” category for me. I have no doubt I would have enjoyed the story more if it were longer in length. Unquestionably, Emma Scott has the writing chops to develop the relationships and aspects of the plot more fully so that the story lives up to its fullest potential.
