You Will Get Through This Night by Daniel Howell

emotional inspiring reflective medium-paced

5.0

You Will Get Through This Night is a practical guide to take control of your mental health. It is a guide filled with tools to help you get through today, tomorrow and the future along with little stories from Dan Howell of his own bout with mental illness and backed by a qualified psychologist.

This is such an incredible book that everyone can relate to no matter what their current mental state is like. Whether you're at whist end or have never had a bad mental health day in your life, it offers practical methods to help get you back on your feet and prevent you from spiraling again. It's also set out so you don't have to read it cover to cover like I did but can just focus on the parts that you need at your current point on your journey. Dan delivers these methods are in a slightly humorous but serious manner by providing insight into his experiences with mental health, a topic he is more open about via his social media. And you can know these are actually helpful as they're backed by someone who actually knows their stuff.

This is the first non-fiction book I have read in so long and my first self-help book. As someone who has had their fair share of mental health issues and ups and downs, it was surprisingly helpful! I went into reading this one thinking it wasn't going to be all that helpful (especially now that I think I'm in a decent headspace currently) and going to be very comical but this was not the case. I also felt like a lot of these tools were things that I did already know about but was explained in a way that I could better understand and I can implement in my life to be a better functioning human. Dan has delivered the necessary facts and tools in a way that has just enough humor to keep me hooked in that sense but also providing very helpful tools to help my mental health.

This book is so phenomenal and I'm very grateful to have read this courtesy of @harpercollinsnz . I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone who has had a "bad mental health day" or is currently going through it right now. There is always help and you're never alone. If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm always a message away and please do consider reaching out to someone more qualified if you feel like you need it. You may be surprised how much it helps. You Will Get Through This Night.
