Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

4.0

GAH! I HATED THE ENDING. I WANTED MORE. NOW I HAVE TO READ THE REST OF THE SERIES!!

Otherwise the book was highly entertaining. I'm not Asian but I've had Asian friends and many of the parents made me giggle. They reminded me of a close friends' mom from high school. It's obviously a book that you have to imagine being insanely rich while reading. Not hard to do, but sometimes sucks because then you remember you're sitting at your desk at a job that does NOT pay enough for you to afford the designers these people consider to be beneath them/for the poor/tacky. There were a ton of designers I've never heard of, but it piqued my interest. I love Rachel. Nick describes her near the end of the book as being pragmatic and he's right. She really is, which is probably why I like her so much. I'll stop there. I don't want to give away any spoilers.

Read this if you'd like to pretend to be an ultra-rich, island-hopping, designer-wearing socialite. It's a great escape, especially in the middle of a Midwest winter and it's snowstorms.
