I picked this up for two reasons:
1) I want to try out the graphic novel/comic book genre.
2) I absolutely LOVE the movie that was adapted from this.
I really enjoyed this comic book bindup. I will say that I enjoyed the movie MORE, but I did like the book a lot.
I really love the art. It's messy and indistinct but it's perfect for the story. I especially love some of the full pages that focus on vampire teeth and blood. It's delightfully gory.
It's just too short. That's really the problem. The film had way more time to really develop characters and make us care about them, and more time to really explore the world. I mean, it's called THIRTY Days of Night, but those thirty days seem really short in the comic book version.
But honestly, I didn't read it for characters. I can watch the movie for that. I just wanted some awesome vampires and lots of blood and a hint of a bigger world, which is exactly what I got. I can't wait to get the next installments in the series!
