This Thing Between Us by Gus Moreno

2.0

I really enjoyed the first half of this book but unfortunately the second half lost me, completely.
I’m left not knowing what this book aimed to be but I definitely know it’s nothing like what the synopsis pitched to me. It’s more cosmic horror, which isn’t my thing. Also seems like most readers don’t know what to make of the ending - same as me. Like… the last 40% was a blur of a fever dream. And not in a good way.

Despite all that, I thought the writing was great in the first half. The topic of grief seems very personal to Gus Moreno and was showcased well in his writing. If this book maintained the vibes of the first half, it very well could have been a 5 star book. But it just seemed to try to be too many different things by the end and none of them landed for me.

So, I can’t recommend this one personally. However, I am interested to see what Gus does next.
