The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

3.5/5

As I continue through The Wedding Date series, I thought I'd leave my thoughts on each individual book. My overall thoughts from the first book can mostly be applied to The Proposal, but I do have some different thoughts as well.

Unlike the first book, I found the beginning and meet-cute moment to be better paced and more natural. The book itself was not as repetitive as the first one, but there isn't much variation in terms of what the characters do. There's always food, sex, and meeting the friends of the other person.

I really loved that Nik was a freelance journalist. As someone studying journalism, I found it interesting to see someone in that role in a novel. I don't think I've ever read about a freelance journalist in a plot, so that was a nice touch for personal reasons.

I think one of my biggest hesitations so far in the series is that the stakes are not high enough. Nothing really happens until there are 50 pages left when all hell breaks loose. But even then things are resolved quickly (after the love birds just ignoring each other for a while).

I think these are great light-hearted reads that you can move through like water. I eat them up very quickly. I just wish it had a bit more oomph –- a bit more happening or emotion. I'm going to continue to read the rest of the series because I like to finish things that I start, and I'm also kind of in the mood for very easy reads right now.
