a great intro to what it means to be black in america. a short, emotionally challenging book for younger readers with strong character development and a deep look into the mental state of someone being forced to face racism in a jarring way. certain issues are over simplified to the point of being problematic, although in such a quick read it makes sense that there would not be space for much nuance.
