Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi

um, holy shit? this just became an entirely different series than the first 3 books. which is especially interesting considering the author intended for the 3rd book to be the end, for it to just be a trilogy. this felt like she had an idea for a brand new trilogy and just decided to attach it to the first 3 books.

and it is so much better than the first 3 books combined?!

i read the 1st one out of curiosity about all the fuss, and really did not like it. i hate-read the second one because i thought there must be some reason people were so crazy about the series but it was so bad it was like reading a trainwreck. then i hated the feeling of not finishing a trilogy and the third book was a pleasant surprise - not amazing, but good enough that i was glad i'd read it to finish out the trilogy.

i debated whether i was going to read this at all because i was surprised it was even being written and why, and suspected it would revert back to being like the first two books, which were way too heavy on the usual tropes and focused way more on bad romance plot than the dystopia.

and while this book did indeed still focus a lot on juliette/warner's drama, it was far less cringeworthy and was also built seamlessly in to the building of the very complicated, twisted turn the plot takes in this book.

fuuuuuuck now i have to read the 5th one when it comes out next year because that ending was WHAT?!?!
