Anna K Away by Jenny Lee

3.0

This was only okay for me (although I did read through it in only a few hours). The first novel in this series, Anna K: A Love Story, surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. The first instalment of the series was fast-paced and there was a ton of drama, which drew me in pretty much immediately. This sequel was definitely slower and it didn’t live up to the expectations set by its predecessor.

The story lacked cohesion because of the rotating perspectives, and I really only cared about Anna’s story. There’s less character development and a lot of clichés. However, it does a good job of exploring trauma and grief from a teen perspective, and I really feel like I would have loved this when I was in high school.

Looking forward to a third book! I still have hopes that another book could capture the drama and tragedy that made Anna K: A Love Story successful.
