Lord of Eternal Night by Ben Alderson
4.0
4.5 stars
this would’ve been a 5-star read, there were just a few too many grammatical errors to ignore. honestly great otherwise, in terms of plot, character development, and story background — just needed a bit more fine-tuning and editing.
if you love enemies-to-lovers, Beauty & the Beast retellings, queer characters, vampires and elemental witches, ghosts, giant castles with secret rooms (including an incredible library, of course), a ton of spice (hello, blood-drinking during sex, sign me up), and a mixture of fantasy/romance/horror, this is a great, quick read.
reread july/august 2024: 3.5 stars
yeah this time around i got a bit bored in the first 40% and the grammar stuff stuck out to me even more (maybe cuz i was aware of it? idk) but when it picked up it was still as fun as i remembered. i mostly reread it bc i want to read the rest in the series so i’m hoping they get better from here!
also one thing i did enjoy and remember enjoying the first time around as well was the horror aspect. there are scenes where i was genuinely terrified, on the edge of my seat, biting my nails. i’ve been loving the blend of horror/romance lately.
