The Lighthouse Witches by C.J. Cooke
dark
mysterious
5.0
~Short Synopsis~
Liv Stay flees to a remote Scottish island with her three daughters, in search of a home. She doesn’t believe in witches, or dark omens, or hauntings. But within months, her daughter Luna will be the only one of them left....
Twenty years later, Luna is drawn back to the place her family vanished. As the last sister remaining, it’s up to her to find out the truth.
~Review~
I've found a new favourite genre - creepy books set on the coast with a lighthouse and a mystery; throw in a gothic atmosphere for good measure...and witches.
At first, it seems as though it is just a standard mystery about a single mother who's children go missing, but it soon takes a turn and becomes much creepier and fantastical. I was absolutely sucked into the dark atmosphere and could not put this book down until I had all the answers. I got whiplash (in a good way) from the author manipulating my thoughts and I honestly had no idea where the story was going until we got there.
This was definitely a lot more horror than I expected as it described as a gothic mystery but I actually really loved all the horror elements. The perfect autumnal/spooky season read.
This story is the perfect blend of paranormal mystery, gothic horror and light fantasy.
