Exceedingly detailed book about the Bombay that you don't see beyond the tourist lanes and cafes, the Hindi movies, and so on. It's divided into chapters based on the topic at hand - drugs, gang war, prostitution, poverty and so on - but people from one chapter do appear in another when relevant. Some of the "stories" are tedious in terms of how it's presented but most are interesting, drawing you in. For those who know the city well, it's even more of an effective read since somewhere, sometime you've come across something or the other mentioned in the book. While it is written wonderfully, and even gives an interesting backstory as to how the city was founded, it doesn't exactly lend itself to making anyone want to stay there full time.
