The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
5.0
Thought provoking.
Enjoyed this book, having seen the film starring Sir Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson reading the book itself offered a different perspective. I believe that it helps you to understand what it was like to work in a stately home. The book itself reflects the expectations of what it is to be a butler but also what one man makes of his job as a butler.
I read this in three sittings over two days and enjoyed reading it, the whole book flowed easily.
I recommend this to anyone who likes books set in the not too distant past and those who like anything to do with class and Britain.
