Harley Merlin and the Secret Coven
by Bella Forrest
Wow. That went downhill fast.
I was so interested in this book and the powers that Harley, the MC, possessed and I really liked the premise of the magic system. But alas, like most self-published kindle books it let me down. The theory of chaos forming all things was not congruent all throughout the book and the idea that basically teenagers or people who are not fully trained would be in charge of something that is the livelihood of all magical beings was ridiculous. on top of that, Harley, is this all powerful person that everyone looks to for help even though she is not fully trained and doesn't know anything actually made me want to pull out my hair. It was readable and I enjoyed a few parts in it.. I just know that I will probably not pick up the next book.
Also the plot just went downhill 75% in... like an evil halfbrother that was evil and bad just because.. comeonnnnn.

Spoiler
So Harley is a teen who has control over all the elements. Earth, wind fire, water...all of it...which is incredibly rare. She is also an Empath which is also incredibly rare and oh yea she has telekinetic abilities too. SO basically she's a talking rainbow colored unicorn that poops fairy dust. To be honest, I didn't mind that she had all the powers known to man but it did bother me that towards the end of the book they looked to her for answers for their problems or treated her like she was amazing and her snarky remarks held weight. The things that she would say were apparently something that no one else would think to say and the things that she did were something that no one else would do because she was so unique . At the end of the book, there was a trial going on and they bring her in and she spouts off a few sassy remarks and everyone is like oh yea this CHILD is right.. darn it. oh well. never mind. we have to end the trial and revoke everything we just said. ALSO do not get me started on how she was attracted to WADE ( what a terrible name) and he was attracted to her, he bought her lingerie but she couldn't figure out ??? what feelings he had for her and she detected no lust, attraction or ooeey gooey feelings from him even though SHE HAS BEEN AN EMPATH ALL OF HER LIFE and can feel that from other people. Also the plot just went downhill 75% in... like an evil halfbrother that was evil and bad just because.. comeonnnnn.
