The Road Not Taken by Emily Tudor

3.0

I received an eARC from Love Notes PR and the author in exchange for an honest review.

TROPES
🟪 Second Chance Romance
🟪 Forced Proximity
🟪 Dual POV
🟪 Dual Timelines

It took me a bit to get through this one. I really wanted to DNF this, but I loved the story so I stuck it out.

I think The Road Not Taken is a great story about how people come together in grief and how sometimes we have to fall apart to grow back together. It does feel like a mostly realistic depiction of the situation, especially in terms of Olivia’s struggle with where she sees her life going. That’s something everyone struggles with at one point or another, and I like how it was depicted.

I also appreciate the little somethings between Olivia and Tristan. Between the letters and sunsets, watching their relationship bloom is a really nice journey, which is why I kept pushing through with reading this book.

As much as I love the story, the tropes, and the characterization of the MCs, this book really drags on. I appreciate why it’s as long as it is, but I do think there was a way to streamline it. The pace was just a bit frustrating for me at times, because it felt like we were stuck in a loop almost and then suddenly everything was happening at a high speed. It was a bit jarring at times.
