The Flight of the Silvers by Daniel Price
Did not finish book.
1.0
Premise sounded good and I really wanted to enjoy this novel, but I just couldn't. The writing is just plain bad. Here's an example: during the first 100 pages or so, things crunch: his brow crunched, her face crunched, she crunched her hat in her hands, corpses crunched under their feet. Weird word choices that I found annoying and jarring. Then the author's need to refer to characters by the label he assigned to them (Hannah the "actress", Amanda the "widow", Zack the "cartoonist, all the scientists are "eggheads") which got old pretty quickly. The focus on the female characters physical attributes was cringe worthy.
Then there's the plot. For some reason, the author thought that a shopping trip for cheap clothes and a stop for gas would be interesting for the reader. After that slough, the group makes a series of really bad decisions that sucked all urgency out of the book, the plot stalled and became a really bad romance novel (and I HATED the romance).
DNF'd at 51%.
