I listened to this book on audiobook as part of a buddy read with a friend from High School who is a Middle School History Teacher. When I tried to read this book back in 2020 I really struggled with the French and ended up DNF'ing it. So when I picked it up this time I was determined to try the audiobook and it completely changed my reading experience!

I don't typically read History novels but since my friend is a history teacher I wanted to choose something he would be interested in. I haven't talked to him about the book yet but I do know that he is very interested in the Holocaust and has been to special Holocaust events in the past so I am hoping he will enjoy this book! Fingers crossed!

For me personally I would rather have a story to follow related to Historical events than a book of facts. I know that the blurb at the end of the book said that Kristin Hannah based this book off of real people's experiences but I think it is still just a story...I'm not 100% sure tho...

I did also enjoy the real life story Night by Eli Wiesel when I read that back in high school...

This book was hard to process but I was still 100% dragged into the worlds of the characters even though Isabelle and Vianne's experiences where drastically different they both experienced the tragedy of war in their own way. They both did what they had to do when the war hit and they helped others survive the war.

The way this story wrapped up really affected me...I'd much rather talk about the books events than give a summary because if I start typing there is no way to summarize without giving the story away. I discussed the book with my mom as I went (because she read the book back when I tried to read it in 2020) but I am really looking forward to the discussion with my friend!

I would love to find another story similar to this one for another Historical read in the future!
