Under Locke
by Mariana Zapata
Overall, this was an enjoyable read which is why it still scored quite high. Mainly because I love Mariana’s writing style. She does the slow-burn romance so well and always has really interesting plots which aren’t overshadowed by the romance. And of course, the smut was fabulous. However, there were a couple of things I found really problematic.
Dex, the MMC, I just didn’t like at all. He was unnecessarily rude to Iris and some of the things he said were unacceptable. I didn’t appreciate his excuses which were along the lines of “I can’t help it. It’s because I like you so much”. And I don’t know why Iris fell for it either!
I did warm up to him a little towards the end because of how fiercely protective he was of Iris.
I loved the sibling relationship between Iris and Sonny. I always think it ends an extra dimension to the book when the family element plays a big part. Unfortunately, Sonny then went off for most of the book and so their only communication was through phone calls. It meant that we didn’t get to have as much of the two of them as I would’ve liked.
Despite this review being quite negative, it still scored 4★ which means that I did really enjoy it. I would still recommend you read it!
