Waiting in the Wings by Melissa Brayden
3.0
picked this up for $3 at a used bookstore and was incredibly interested in reading a) a lesbian book from the 2010s (a gap in my lesbian reading history) and b) a romance book pre-the age of the internet that promised to be free of taylor swift and pop culture references.
it was mostly interesting to read to compare to 2020s published romances and how much the culture has shifted there - characters in this were incredibly level headed and emotionally mature. there were lots of mini conflicts that were resolved through communication instead of one big bad miscommunication at the end. none of the women were forced to clock in for shifts at the Quirky Factory. it actually felt like i was reading about 27-28 year olds instead of YA protags stretched out willy wonka style into adult bodies.
i liked it! it was a quick and fun read. nothing spectacular, the sex scenes aren't very deftly written, and i like my leads with more defined personalities. kind of eye emojing this author's new book about a babysitter tho................
