Recitatif by Toni Morrison

reflective slow-paced

3.0

This is such an interesting concept for a short story and it is beautifully written, but the essay at the beginning just totally killed my desire to get through this. I really wish I read the story first and then went back to read the essay because the essay (which is also interesting and well written) completely analyzed every single thing in the story to the point where I felt like I didn’t even need to actually read Recitatif. I might have to revisit this again with a clear head at some point.
