The Book of Azrael by Amber V. Nicole
DID NOT FINISH: 66%

This book is just not for me. I gave it up to 66% and I just am not invested in the characters and the story to continue it. I had been ready to DNF it at 10% bc I didn’t think the author’s writing style was for me in particular the world building. I prefer info dumps so that I know everything from the start and can focus on the story and not spend time trying to understand the world. This is one where you get bits and pieces as you progress in the story but it’s not until 18% in my book that I felt like I had a better framework but I will say there were still gaps but I decided to ignore that so I could try to focus on the story. I will say the story did start to pick up at that point I really enjoyed Dianna. She was just my favorite type of FMC strong, kick ass, damaged, full of fire but also had heart like the love for her sister and the sacrifices she was making for her sister to keep her safe. But it is after she switches teams once again to make a deal to keep her sister safe it just seemed like she was losing all the things that I had loved about her. She was still sassy, but she just seemed less than she was at the start of the book.

Something else I didn’t quite enjoy is that this author came up with this whole NEW world. She is not playing off our world and combining it with a fantasy element. So, for me when we have a brand-new fantasy world it can irk me when words and elements are used from our world like saying wake up sleeping beauty when there is no Disney in the new world or references to like an Italian suit when there is no Italy in this new world. Something else is that when she is describing some of the allied races to Kaden she talks about the vampires, witches and werewolves but then there are other races simply called dream eaters and the powerful. Like could we not find similar creatures in current mythology like we did with the other races?

I just don’t think the author’s writing style was for me and like I said by 66% when I saw I still had so many book left on the kindle 564 I just couldn’t stick it out. I think some portions could have been edited down as well bc at times certain parts did drag and that bump from earlier on in the book did disappear for me.
