Before Your Memory Fades by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

4.0

The third book of Before The Coffee Gets Cold series is set in a different city and different cafe from the first two books. Who would’ve known there would be another time-traveling cafe in Hakodate (my favourite city in Japan, so double win!)?

This book shows 15 years had passed since the 2nd book. Nagare and Kazu (and her 7-year-old daughter, Sachi) moved to Hakodate from Tokyo when Nagare’s mother who managed Donna Donna, the time-travelling cafe in Hakodate, went off to America for a quest.

Despite being the third installation, the series remains heartwarming. Some may feel it’s being repetitive but I read each with months (or years) gap in between so it didn’t feel as boring. Although it seems to be a cycle for this book — those who travelled back in time are those who want to meet the dead, and those who travelled to the future know they’re going to die.

I would recommend against reading this series back-to-back because it would feel like a chore. Otherwise, it’s a good read, for us to reflect on our lives.
