I absolutely loved this utter romp of a fantasy, and honestly my main issue with it is that I listened to the audiobook way too soon after the publishing date and now I'm gonna be in limbo waiting for the next installment for goodness knows how long. It is such fun, peppered with genuine laugh out loud moments, high camp self awareness/indulgence, and profoundly touching glimpses of the more vulnerable interiors of the cast of villains. It's Mean Girls for epic fantasy lovers. I have only deducted a half point from my rating for a couple of plot and tone inconsistencies, including primarily a musical-inspired ballroom scene which genuinely is still giving me secondhand cringe, but overall, it's a riot, and I'm already looking forward to re-reading and then experiencing the next part in this series.
