Hocus Pocus and the All-New Sequel by A. W. Jantha

3.0

Booooook. Wow, what a ride. I loved that the original Hocus Pocus tale is included, but there's added depth to it for the fans to have some new content to sink their teeth into. The backstory on Elizabeth was a lovely twist that I admittedly didn't find relevant at first, but loved how it all tied together.

The new story picks up with Poppy, the daughter of Max and Alison. She sets out with her friends on Halloween to prove to herself that she doesn't believe in the Sandersons, or does she? It doesn't matter, because she finds out it's all true anyway and a new race against the time to defeat them begins. I admit the plot was really engaging and I loved the new story that also included some old favorites popping in. I wasn't too sold on the romance aspect, mainly because it just felt like an unnecessary addition to the novel. It would have been just as good without it and felt almost like a repeat of Max and Alison. I also think there were a few magic aspects that needed better explaining.

Regardless, I think this is a fantastic fall read and maybe we'll see this turn into a movie one day? I can hope right? The cliffhanger at the end leaves me wondering if there will be another book, but we'll see I suppose.
