Balderdash!: John Newbery and the Boisterous Birth of Children's Books (Nonfiction Books for Kids, Early Elementary History Books) by Michelle Markel

5.0

I loved everything about this book. The typesetting, which has variances in ink density just as a page coming off a 1700s letterpress would; the illustrations, which put the reader right into the environment of life as a young person in that era; and the story of a young man who was so excited about books it became his life's passion.

(Also, there's a ten-dollar Scrabble/Words with Friends word in this book, for the interested.)
