A really engaging read – I couldn't seem to put the book down. Great Sydney-based literature which did a great job at creating a strong sense of Sydney University and the socioeconomically privileged surrounds of the inner city and Eastern Suburbs. I found the characters completely insufferable, especially due to their extreme wealth and social capital privilege, which I suppose was Reid's point at the end of the day. The affair between the 18-year-old protagonist and her philosophy professor was extremely inappropriate and genuinely didn't need to be at the crux of the novel. Super uncomfortable stuff that seemed to romanticise grooming just because a young woman has turned 18. Yikes. All in all, a relevant book for Young Liberals on their path to becoming career politicians. Keen to read more from Diana Reid.
