The Shadow Box by Luanne Rice

4.0

Claire is an artist preparing for a big show showcasing her shadow boxes. While she finalizes her last piece for the show, she keeps it a secret, knowing it will infuriate the man she is sure killed a friend 25 years ago - her husband Griffin. Before she can make it to the gallery, though, she is attacked and left for dead. Now on the run, Claire is determined to prove and reveal that her husband is a killer before he's elected governor of Connecticut. However, he's backed by many of the rich and elite in their town who will do just about anything to keep him in power. On the same day of Claire's disappearance, another woman is killed, and Claire has to rely on her own wits to see if the two murders are connected and figure out how to bring Griffin down before he finds her. With a complex plot and a long list of characters, the story could get a little convoluted at times, but for the most part it held together and propelled the reader through fast-paced suspense with a satisfying ending.
