I loved this book! It had me hooked from the very beginning. I was worried when I first started it because all of my friends who have read it said that it was all about video games, and since I haven't played many video games I worried that I wouldn't understand this at all. That, fortunately, was not the case. The book explains all of the technology used, a lot of which is advanced and futuristic, and it also goes into detail about the types of video games played.
The biggest surprise from this book was the number of 80's references. That is a huge part of the plot, and it was fantastic to read. It was probably my favorite thing about the book, actually. I mean, it kind of made me sad because all of these kids from a futuristic world are watching movies, listening to songs, and playing video games from the 80's because the contest depends on it. But it was so great because I understood most of them! Anyway, the book was really fun to read because of that. I couldn't put it down. The story is so new and captivating that putting it down is nearly impossible.
