There's a bit more darkness in [b:The Other Side of Disappearing|139923147|The Other Side of Disappearing|Kate Clayborn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1699464883l/139923147._SX50_.jpg|155821120] than Kate Clayborn's previous novels, but that just serves to make it more complex and interesting. Jess is grouchy, private, multi-layered, and somewhat stuck in the person she was 10 years ago when her mother abandoned her and her 8-year-old sister. Adam is sort of the sunshine to her grump, but perhaps more of a cinnamon roll MMC. Or more accurately, a Golden Retriever therapy dog. He's big and gentle and careful of Jess and ends up being perfect for her.

I always enjoy a road trip trope, and this one served to allow the four 'compass points' to learn more about themselves and each other. I look forward to Clayborn's new book every year, and they never disappoint.

But I'm not really a fan of the cover. To me, the drawing looks like something a teenager would create.
