Water's Wrath by Elise Kova

4.0

May 2024 reread
Bumping this up to 4 stars. This was a very triggering book for me (watching a loved one's health deteriorate due to illness) so it was harder for me to get through certain chapters, but it also meant I was feeling a stronger attachment to the characters which I can't fault.

This one didn't feel quite as exciting to me as the last few books. As is the case, much happens in the beginning, the middle is a lot of information, less action, and then a big climax at the ending. I was impressed with the character growth in Vhalla in this book. She's definitely grown into more of warrior since the first book and it's interesting to read. Unfortunately, after the ending to the last book and the state of her relationship with Aldrik, things seemed to have dragged even more in this book. It wasn't until we reached a horribly heartbreaking climax in the book that things started to pick back up. I've made it this far through the series, and I'm so curious to see how things wrap up in the last book, but Water's Wrath wasn't anything special to the series in my opinion.
