On Wings of Blood
by Briar Boleyn
adventurous
mysterious
medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
I enjoyed listening to the audio for this one, though I would’ve loved if it had been done in duet.
I liked Medra, and that she stood up for herself and questioned things, and that she also acknowledged when she was becoming comfortable with her place at Bloodwing.
Definitely enjoyed Neville the Fluffin and also the found family.
I didn’t love Blake, but hopefully we get to see more of his POV next time. I did love how much he liked the Fluffin.
Spoilers coming up:
I do wish that we could’ve spent more time with Blake so that we could’ve seen his perspective of things more clearly. He overall seems fairly complacent and I don’t know how I feel about that, considering how awfully the vampires view humans.
From their name for humans (blight born) to their control over them to make humans complacent… including the blood maiden in the ceremony. The way they completely destroyed Naveen and made him into this humanoid monster… I did not expect what happened to Naveen. That definitely rattled me a bit. Poor Naveen!
I felt like throughout the book, Blake kept thinking about how Medra *wasn’t like other girls*. Which I get, she’s special and she’s a dragon rider but also, it was a bit much.
I really didn’t like the end when Blake told Medra he’d tricked her into the blood bond and he’d die if she didn’t let him drink from her. It was so manipulative and then to make matters worse, when she clearly continued to say no, he just forced it on her. From her POV we could tell that it wasn’t a situation where she really did want to, and was just trying to make a point. It seemed like she really did not want that to happen.
All that said, I did still have fun reading it and will read the next one.
