Into the Planet: My Life as a Cave Diver by Jill Heinerth

5.0

A super cool book to read. Just interesting! Like interesting not in a “oh I might need to do that some day” but rather in a “wow, I had no idea that was a thing!” It was an inspiring and exciting read. I’d never heard of cave diving or the author before reading but wow, has she lived a fascinating life. I learned what a rebreather was, all about decompression, getting the bends, and about how to travel to Antarctica. I listened to this as an audiobook in my car and I’d sit in my car even after I’d parked because I had to keep listening. I mean it was that exhilarating. Like even at the beginning of the book, when she’s in college in Canada, she describes her life-changing experiences she had. I don’t want to spoil anything! She narrowly escapes death so many times. Cave diving and heck, diving in general, is such a risky endeavor yet she chooses to keep diving. I appreciated her acknowledgment that what she does is extremely risky and the heartfelt truth that she has lost many of her beloved friends. It’s an honest book.
I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to read something new and unique.
