Because I had enjoyed Yellowface and like fantasy with a mythic element I pulled out this first novel in a series. It has a woman, Rin, for a main character who is strong much of the time, though I don't agree with all her decisions .It held my attention from beginning to end. There are battles, as the title suggests, and a couple very violent chapters, but most of the action is strategizing and focused on the characters involved. There are plenty of conflicts and friendships to keep track of as well.

I've placed a hold on the second in the series and eagerly await it.
