Fairy-Struck by Amy Sumida

4.0

I found this book on a Goodreads thread and decided to take the plunge. For a Fae novel, this one stands apart - creating a whole new world and Court wrapped around the myths and legends that we all know so well. While playing on the new theme and setting new rules, it still harkens back to tried and true when it comes to Fairy Tales, solidyfying the scaffolds that have carefully formed this genre.

Overall engaging and entrancing, it moves forward at a steady clip - even though there are times when the narrative runs ragged with detail and imagery. The main character is humorous and sassy - just like the heroine of all good Paranormal novels should be, though at times she did come across as flat and one sided (ironic for someone supposed to be immersed in the in-between). Her growth, at this point, is more forced than focused, yet I am eager to see how the author fleshes her out (and the other characters) in the next book.
