A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

5.0

This isn’t the type of book I would usually read, but my friend recommend it to me and I did not expect it to affect me the way it has. Francie Nolan is a sweet little girl with big dreams, living in Brooklyn with her family as they deal with the hardships of poverty. She lives with her brother, who she has a sweet relationship with, her mother, who works tirelessly to provide for the family, and her father, who breaks everyone’s hearts time and time again. I grew attached to Francie, following along as she grew up with the odds set against her. I loved the detail and the background of all the families. I really enjoyed reading this book.
