The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré

4.0

Such a wonderful breath of fresh air.

Meet Adunni, a young girl in Nigeria whose mother passes away. Her father ends up forcing her into a marriage for money, and from then on, her life becomes one of a chain of obstacles and struggles that she has be face and overcome. In spite of everything that's thrown at her however, Adunni continues to focus on the promise she made to her mother to go to school, get educated, and improve her life through what she's learned. The novel is written in first person and the author has kept the colloquialisms that Adunni would have; it's especially rewarding in the later chapters to see her grammar improve as she's able to learn more.

I've found that I love stories like The Girl with the Louding Voice about women who, against insurmountable odds, are able to use education to their benefit to change their lives. An empowering and encouraging story, and one that I'd recommend to any of my friends.
