Our Little Secret by Roz Nay

3.0

Oh no! I had such high hopes for this book with all of the great reviews and the hype. Sadly, I couldn't connect with any of the characters and this really needed to be a character-driven story to get us to the place we needed to be for it to all work. I needed to feel the first love bliss between Angela and HP and how that love remained as a bond between them. Instead it felt like a guy and girl who dated for a summer and then went their separate ways. No big love story here. Not even a "one that got away story". That left me confused.

SpoilerAlso, the way that HP and Saskia let Angela move in with them, and made her Olive's godmother was so unbelievable. There are ways that the author could have gotten there - the first thing that comes to mind is to make Angela more manipulative and show us how she squirmed her way into HP and Saskia's marriage and family - make it where HP and Saskia were trapped into inviting her into their home and making her Olive's godmother. I just don't buy that they did that of their own accord. It is weird and strange and just not believable.

Nonetheless, I am giving this Three Stars because I was excited to read it and I enjoyed myself while reading it (although I was mislead to believe that it was all going somewhere). Also, I liked the concept that this is all being told to an investigator in an interrogation room. Lastly, I liked the ending to the book.
