Surviving Ice, Volume 4 by K.A. Tucker

5.0

An elaborate, woven tale that will put together two people so oddly alike yet incredibly different, and they will ground each other and bring peace to each other. A great ending to a series of standalones, and written as only K.A. Tucker can do.

Ivy is a nomad. She can’t stay in one place too long before she has the itch to get going somewhere else. Thankfully her tattooist profession can be a traveling one, and with her many friends in many places, she always has some place to crash for a bit. For the first time, though, San Francisco has lasted her. Seven months in one place is a record, and she’s really enjoying working at her uncle’s job, thinking she’s finally found a so-called home. When the very foundation under her rocks until it crumbles, that bug starts itching that she needs to go go go. But when the ties she’s forever been keeping from getting tied won’t let go, she’s forced into sticking around. Her tough, icy exterior betrays her longing heart on the inside, and she becomes torn with the need to flee and the yearning to stay.

Enter in Sebastian. He’s someone Ivy can’t quite figure out. He shows up wanting a tattoo from her, adamant that only she do it, even when he can’t miss that she is desperately trying to get out of it and the city. When she feels anything but safe or settled, his mere presence makes her feel safe. Her mask slips around him, making her want to be around him. That magnetic feeling is something not even she can fight. But Sebastian isn’t exactly who he says he is. And he has a lot that he’s hiding under that cool and calm exterior.

Ivy and Sebastian’s journey was exciting to read. You knew that Ivy was this sort of badass roaming woman who had a lot of chips on her shoulder, but you could really see that Sebastian settled her and became what she needed to calm her soul. K.A. Tucker wrote a fantastic storyline that was perfect for who these characters were, and it had the perfect amount of excitement, with a lot of intricate little details woven in throughout. Sebastian and Ivy will grow on you (an ivy pun-ha!) immediately, and you’ll absolutely love them. I’m sad to see the series come to an end, but I am incredibly excited to see what more comes from the mind of K.A.!
