“You cannot pick and choose what parts of her to love.”

Heir of Fire - Sarah J. Maas

This is the third installment in the "Throne of Glass" series, is the book everyone told me would be a game-changer—and they were absolutely right. Picking up after the devastating events of "Crown of Midnight", Celaena Sardothien travels to Wendlyn to confront her heritage, her powers, and her grief. Meanwhile, new players enter the stage: the iron-teethed witches, the wyverns they ride, and the chilling Valga - a race of terrifying, parasitic beings bent on domination.
This is the book where the world cracks wide open. I loved Maeve, sharp-tongued, manipulative, and perfectly antagonistic. She’s the kind of villain who makes you want more scenes just so you can watch her work. Manon Blackbeak was an instant favorite for me; she’s brutal, ambitious, and yet, somehow, deeply compelling. The witches and their wyverns add a raw, beastly beauty to the story that raises the stakes far beyond the glass castle.
And then there’s Rowan, ever gruff, deadly, and unexpectedly loyal, but I’m still holding out hope that Celaena and Chaol are endgame. The political schemes, the personal growth, and the escalating threat of the Valg all weave together into a story that’s both epic and emotionally charged.
If I have one frustration, it’s Maas’ pattern of introducing likable women of color only for them to die. It’s noticeable, and it undercuts a little of the story she is telling for me a little. Still, "Heir of Fire" is a turning point as its bigger, darker, and more dangerous than anything before it. It’s the book where the chessboard is set, the real enemies are revealed, and the players finally realize just how high the cost of winning will be.
