Bad Therapist by Evan Wright

4.0

This story was super fascinating, but extremely cringeworthy + graphic in parts, so content warning: sexual assault, drug use. The number of times the author used the word "vibes" was astonishing, and not in a good way. Overall, I wasn't a fan of the writing when I really paid attention. But, since I was listening to it, it was a bit easier to ignore that and just listen to the story, which, whoah. Crazy story! Also, the performance was questionable. Can we PLEASE be done with male voice actors doing female voices in a weird, aloof, pathetic, whiny tone? Like, just read the text; your voices are distracting and weird, and I'm a little offended.

The systems that allowed this failed-pool-man-turned-"therapist" sociopath to exploit and commodify addicts is still in place — almost nothing has changed. The United States' "War on Drugs" is still in full force, and people are still capitalizing on illness of addiction, which is extremely distressing.
